My Adventures Walking the Camino de Santiago

Camino 2013

Fonfria to Sarria

Today started out with snow. Most of the walk was cold with a few rain showers.

My mom encouraging me to carry on.

The crazy steep paths downhill the rocks are wild.

Tonight I stayed in a convent. It was really nice.

The Jesuits are here too!

I thought it would be interesting to see my nightly routine.

My luxurious bed. Note the paper mattress.

My clothes organized for re-packing tomorrow morning.

My pack, rain coat, rain cover for my pack and sandals.

All ready for the new day.

Vega de Valcarce to Fondria

Today was EPIC. My day started with this amazing view from my albergue balcony.

The full moon going down behind the hill with clouds creeping over next to the castle ruins. A really amazing sight that is not done justice in my pictures.

Then my walk started. About 5k into my day the snow began. The mountains were as steep and the path rocky. Within an hour it was blizzard conditions. Very humbling to a pilgrim who walks no matter what the weather.

Crossing into Galecia.

After a 7:30 start I made it to my target albergue in fonfria by 2:30. Crazy! It just makes me smile at the thought that I just 6 hours in the driving snow! I despise the snow…lol.

Now I am kicking back and enjoying a local cider. Good stuff. Tomorrow is a new day. Only 6 days till Santiago. Amazing.

Cacabelos to Valcarlos

Today was an interesting walk. Half of the day the highway was on one side and a beautiful river on the other. I walked about 24k today to put me just at the bottom of the last big hill/mountain. Tomorrow will be 11k straight up then it will level out for the rest of the day.

Just as I started my morning these beautiful Iris’s in my path. As if my mom were saying good morning and have a great day.

I am walking in wine country today. Red grapes are Mencia and white grapes are Godello.

Just along the path is this yard with tons of sculptures.

Spanish lavender growing wild by the roadside.

According to this I only have 190k to go. Piece of cake.
