My Adventures Walking the Camino de Santiago

Camino 2013

Apr 13 2013

Tasantos to Ages. 25k

Today we walked up hill for about the first 10k.

Then for the next 15k is was mostly a slight down hill trek through the pine and oak Forrest’s. I passed through San Juan de Ortega and had a chance to go into the beautiful church. Then on to Ages.

Check out the storks nest on top of the church. Storks migrate between Africa and Spain. They are monogamous and return to the same nest each year.

Staying in a nice albergue here only 10 beds.

Tomorrow a short 22k to Burgos.

Santo Domingo de Calzada to Tosantos 27.6k

No wifi today so I am writing this and will post from the next town.

Today was a long walk in very strong head winds. The sky was blue but the wind was strong. Tomorrow is a big hill day. I will be walking up up up.

Standing at a cross just after sunrise outside of Santo Domingo.

I am staying at San Francisco de Asis parochial hospital de Peregrinos. It is a no frills Matt on the floor in the attic place.

This is a church carved into the side of the hill.

At the place I stayed tonight there were 32 people and 15 different nationalities.

We shared a communal meal which we all helped cook. What a blast. There was singing and laughing.

I good time was had by all.

The night ended with a prayer in a special chapple in the attic.

Najera to Santa Domingo de Calzada

Today was a beautiful day. I walked through vineyards and fields. Up and down but not to severe.

The albergue I stayed at in Najera

Only 582k left. It is going by so fast!

A golf course on the Camino. Four pilgrims coming through.

I felt great today. I hope this is the start of getting my walking feet back. I seem to be getting a blister every few days but they are not a big deal. Having quite an adventure. Spent the day walking with two Danes today. Really nice people.

Once you check into the albergue it’s like old home week. All the people that I have met and talked to show up and it’s hugs all around. Everyone has a Camino story from their day. Today the albergue has a foot specialist. Excitement is in the air. No one has escaped the pain of the Camino.
