There are many routes that can be walked on the Camino de Santiago. The most popular and populated route goes from St Jean Pied du Port in France across the top of the Iberian peninsula to Santiago de Compostela. This is the path the I have walked the past 2 years. It is approximately 800 kilometers or 480 miles. This coming year I will be starting in the southwest of Spain at Sevilla and walking to Salamanca which is about 340 miles north.

The next adventure
Our next adventure is a rough one. We are taking a Mediterranean cruise. We depart from Barcelona for 12 days. We have stops in Toulon, France. Florence, Rome, and Naples Italy, Istanbul and Kushasashi (sp) in turkey, Mikinos and Athens in Greece. We end up in Venice, Italy.
This is a special trip as we have my father, and my aunt and uncle (my moms brother and his wife with us). Since my mom passed away this past June we thought it would be good to get them away for a bit. Something to take our minds off our loss.
My dad was amazing with my mom and really devoted his life totally to her care. My uncle Alan was also amazing he was at my parents house almost daily helping with my mom and giving my dad a break. So we thought this would be a really nice thank you.
Aside from that my uncle is hilarious. He has a great sense of humor and is just a really good guy.
Today we traveled from Sacramento to Los Angeles and then from Los Angeles to Paris. On the LA to Paris leg we were on the new Airbus A380. It’s a double decker plane that is absolutely huge. We were fortunate enough to be in business class which is on the upper deck. What a deal. The plane is so big that it has cameras in the tail, nose cone, and the belly of the plane that you can look at on the screen at you seat. Of course the food is really good. They served lobster cocktail to start. The best part is that I got about 6 hours sleep. So we are now in Paris and I feel pretty rested. Our next flight is to Barcelona where we will spend the next few days.
So happy to be headed back to Spain even if only for a few days this time.

A quick weekend trip to Vancouver BC
Last weekend My wife and I went to Vancouver BC. We went first of all to see a concert, KISS and Shinedown, and secondly to visit and explore Vancouver. The one and only time we had been there before was May of 1996. We were there to board a Princess cruise ship to Alaska. As I remembered it Vancouver was beautiful. Vancouver is Beautiful. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver. It is a great hotel centrally located to downtown, the water front, Gas Town, and China Town. Our room was on the 30th floor with a view of the harbor.
Vancouver is a walkers paradise. You can walk just about anywhere in the city in not much more than 15 minutes. We really enjoyed walking through the shopping district, Stopped and had Dim Sum in China town and spent some time on the water front checking out the big cruise ships that were in town, as well as watching all of the sea planes take off just off the pier.
On our way home it was a little hairy, since the Asiana airlines crash and San Francisco airport had occurred the day before we were not so sure that we would make it home. When we arrived at the airport to check in for our 4:30pm flight we were told that I was delayed until 12:35am the next morning and that we would not be able to get a flight back to Sacramento until Tuesday. After scrambling for a bit trying to figure out if we might have any alternatives, which we did not. We actually boarded the plane at our scheduled time arrived a few minutes early. When we landed at SFO we landed on the runway directly next to the crash. It was surreal to see all of the debris still spread out on the runway.
All in all Vancouver was an awesome trip. Looking forward to getting back to Canada soon.
