Resources for information on the Via de la Plata

The Via de la Plata is a route that is much less crowded. Just as there are fewer pilgrims, there are not many guides or maps and of the ones available most are 3 to 5 years old. Here is a list of the guides, maps and information that I have found so far.

The Camino Planner is an interactive tool meant to allow you to generate several customized files (images, spreadsheets, web tables, pdf files and GPS files) containing different data regarding your future pilgrimage along any of the four currently available routes to Santiago: coordinates, distances, heights, villages, lodging facilities, stages, and even sun and moon calendar. They are now right on the Camino. You cross the Triana bridge coming from the direction of the cathedral and follow the Camino taking the first right. They are just up the street on the righthand side at number 82 on the ground floor, first door on your left. You can´t miss it. You can get a credential there. They are only open from 18:00 to 20:00 November to March and 19:00 to 21:00 April to October.

Another place to get a credential is the hotel Simon.

It is literally 120 meters from the Cathedral. You exit the Iglesia del Sagario and cross the tram tracks and turn right. You just go down the first street on the left. It´s 100 yards or meters from there. They are ready and waiting in the Hotel Simon with credentials and you simply fill out a form with your information, pay 2 euros, and they give you an official credential specific to the Camino de la Plata with 40 places for stamps. On the front of it it says Amigos del Camino de Santiago Via de la Plata and on the back there is a large map of the Via de la Plata.

Many pilgrims stay at the Triana backpackers hostel. Book on line early if you plan on staying there. I checked 2 months in advance and they were all booked for the night I wanted to stay. I am staying at the Hotel Simon.

Lastly there are many pilgrims who have walked and blogged about the VLDP. I have gained a great deal of information from the blogs of past pilgrims.
