Today a woke up to rain. I started to walk out the door of my hotel and realized it was raining so back upstairs I went to get my raincoat. I was headed for Toledo to take a walking tour.
The train ride to Toledo only takes 36 minutes. It is very easy. Toledo is a hilltop city that has protection from a river on 3 sides so it was prized in ancient times as a secure location. It has been inhabited by the Christian’s, Muslims and the Jews so it is a mix of all 3 cultures.
Today there are about 10,000 permanent residents that live inside the walls. It is the home to the Vatican embassy and the Archbishop of Spain. The Cathedral is the second largest in Spain second only to the Cathedral of Sevilla.
We had a great walking tour of the city and learned about how the three religions coexisted although not necessarily harmoniously.
After the tour I caught the train back to Madrid so I could grab some lunch although it was 4pm at Casa Toni a favorite. Then I walked around a bit and now am getting ready for bed and making sure that I am packed for my bus ride tomorrow to Najéra.
